OSCE member countries support new mechanism of monitoring mission

June 28th, 2009 22:59

Russian Foreign Minister acknowledges that talking about the spheres of influences in the 21st century is unacceptable. Sergei Lavrov had to listen to the critics and remarks made by the representatives of the 56 countries, who participated in the OSCE informal ministerial.

After the three-hour summit, informal dinner was held on the Greek island of Corfu, although the Russian Foreign Minister was not among the Foreign Ministers of the OSCE member countries.

The Georgian issue has been precisely discussed at the summit. The ministers talked about setting the new format of the OSCE mission into motion. This intends giving a new, executive function to the mission that had not been used in Georgia before. If the mechanism stats working, rights of police forces will be given to the OSCE monitors and they will deploy to the occupied regions. This implies that reoccupation of the Georgian territories will start. Representatives of all the 56 countries, except Russia, support the proposal of starting the mechanism in Georgia.
