Russian opposition leaders have assessed the statements by the president of the United States, who has paid official visit to the Russian capital. The opposition leaders spoke about the visit in the air of the Echo Moskvy radio station.
They said, the statements made by Obama regarding Georgia, were clear messages for the addressees. The Russian opposition agrees that the US president was worried with the issue of Georgia and his concerns were obvious in his speeches.
Gary Kasparov, one of the most radical opposition leaders in Russia, disapproved the live translation of Obama`s speech at the joint press conference held after the meeting of the two presidents.
`I won`t pretend that the United States and Russia agree on every issue. As President Medvedev indicated, we have had some frank discussions, and there are areas where we still disagree. For instance, we had a frank discussion on Russia — on Georgia, and I reiterated my firm belief that Georgia`s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected. Yet even as we work through our disagreements on Georgia`s borders, we do agree that no one has an interest in renewed military conflict. And going forward, we must speak candidly to resolve these differences peacefully and constructively,` Barak Obama said on Tuesday.
